SITA is very pleased to again offer a leading edge solution to its customers with the launch of its Battery Recycling Program in the ACT*.
With your help SITA's battery recycling program will significantly reduce the number of batteries that end up in Australian landfills, and help to lessen the impact of hazardous substances on our environment.
What Batteries Can Be Collected?
Batteries come in all shapes and sizes however; they can all be grouped into two categories - single use batteries and rechargeable batteries. Both types are used in many day-to-day office and home items and can be accepted in SITA's recycling program. Examples of these batteries include:

What happens to the batteries once they are collected?
Your battery recycling box is couriered to our partner's specialist battery recycling facilities in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane where the batteries will be sorted into their respective technologies. Rechargeable batteries are recycled within Australia and single-use batteries are shipped, pursuant to Environment Australia permits, to approved overseas recycling centres.
What is recycled?
Batteries contain heavy metals that are potentially toxic to humans and the environment if not disposed of correctly.
*SITA's battery recycling box program will be trialled in the ACT from June 2008. You must be a SITA customer to take advantage of this new service.
