New trucks ready for recycling in Brisbane

Brisbane City Council’s recycling campaign is already reaping results with partner SITA Environmental Solutions buying three new trucks ready for pick ups in the Brisbane area.

SITA’s QLD SGM, Brian Cohalan, said the new SITA trucks will be added to the north and south routes. These trucks, which individually have a capacity of 4.7 tonnes, will be added to the regular rotation ensuring everyone’s rubbish is collected on their allocated day.

“We still want people to follow our guidelines and ensure their yellow-lid recycling bin and general waste bin are placed in an accessible position and are not overflowing” said Brian.

Residents in Brisbane have been encouraged to compact their waste which helps them fit more into their yellow-lid recycling bin.

Recycling has huge environmental and greenhouse gas (GHG) benefits. If a resident puts out their fully co-mingled yellow-lid recycling bin every fortnight for a year they are saving half a tonne of CO2e over the year. This means they are saving the same GHG emissions as watching their television for 2500 hours or driving their car 1500km.

Working with SITA the aim of Council’s four month recycling campaign is to educate and encourage Brisbane residents to put more recycling materials – especially metal, paper, cardboard, glass and plastic – in the yellow-lid recycling bin.
