Environment Policy

SITA Environmental Solutions manages the collection, treatment and ultimate disposal of industrial, commercial and domestic waste streams. SITA seeks to protect and, where possible, enhance Australia’s unique natural environment, as well as conserve its natural resources.

SITA is committed to:

  • complying at all times with relevant Federal and State environmental laws, and other legislation and requirements;
  • adopting responsible environmental protection practices;
  • seeking excellence in waste handling procedures; and
  • striving for the prevention of pollution and continual improvements in environmental performance.

To achieve these goals, we:

  • provide resources to meet our environmental obligations;
  • integrate responsible environmental targets with corporate planning process;
  • continuously monitor and review our environmental performance and report to regulators as required;
  • audit our major sites’ environmental management systems;
  • respond promptly and appropriately to any adverse environmental impacts that may result from our activities;
  • implement the principles of waste reduction, reuse and recycling;
  • consult with the local community in response to any concerns about our operations;
  • educate our employees and contractors in environment protection techniques; and
  • work with public sector and industry groups to encourage sustainable environmental practice.

SITA views Australia’s waste as a resource from which useful products can be extracted for reuse. These include energy extraction, production of various grades of compost and the recycling of paper products, timber, plastics, metals and glass.

Our operations in Australia meet best industry practices for protection of the environment.

Good stewardship of the environment through compliance with this Policy is a responsibility of all SITA’s employees and contractors.
